Sales really are everywhere

I spend hours during the day talking to people, sending emails, and and making phone calls.  Most of them are in order to sell a product or service.  I have done this for a while, and it became second nature to look deeper into what someone is saying in order to understand them.

What I have realized is that everything revolves around some sort of sale, whether I am actually getting paid or not.  I am looking deeper into the small sales in life that have the biggest impact.  For example, how about convincing a girl to go out on a date with you and then she eventually becomes your wife, or getting one of your friends to come out with some night and you both have the time of your life.

I will discuss the little things that have occurred in my life, things that included some sort of sale whether I realized it or not, and how they have impacted me.  It doesn’t necessarily need to be a sale I made either, for example one of my good friends in high school told me about The Ohio State University, convinced me it was great, it was the last school I applied to, and the school I ended up attending.

Sales is always such a negative term, but it shouldn’t be, it is an exchange of thoughts and opinions, and usually someone is benefitting.

  1. I worked for a life insurance company over the summer meeting with clients so I felt this post was very interesting. I agree with you. Life is a series of sales. Should I walk the dog? Watch this movie? Write this comment? It is a series of decisions with multiple weights dictating which choice we will make. Being on the phone with, usually, complete strangers introduced to the way people really feel about sales. They knew why I called and many “hated” me for interrupting their lives. But as you illustrated, those little interruptions and what is born (or not) out of them are what run this world. Great post. Very thought-provoking. So, are you doing this for a job?
